TO AID ALASKAN CONSERVATION
CAMARILLO, Calif. – Opponents of the potentially environmentally devastating Pebble Mine in Alaska’s Bristol Bay region will benefit from an Abel Super 5N trout reel, announced Jeff Patterson, director of sales for the fishing tackle manufacturer.
Abel will produce a limited edition – numbered 1 to 100 – of the engraved reels in a specially anodized red color, symbolic of both the area’s sockeye or red salmon and the “No Pebble Mine” campaign, whose conduit to the fly fishing industry has been the Sportsman’s Alliance for Alaska.

NUMBER 20 |
|
The first Abel Reel – Which was the first version of our current Big Game #2 – was sold in February, 1988, making 2008 our 20th Anniversary. Abel was a pioneer and innovator then. We still are.
For 2008, we will produce a Special Collectors’ Edition of 100 numbered 1988-style Big Game #2 reels – re-engineered replicas of the original Abel. These reels have the original large handle, full frame, a “beauty line” on the frame and all the other features of that classic.
In appreciation and thanks for inspiring the Abel Reel and sharing his fishing wisdom in the design and production, we are presenting fly-fishing legend Dave Inks with 2008 Replica Reel #1.
Abel Reels: Twenty years of the world’s best tools for the world’s best fly-fishers.

ALUMINUM HANDLES |
 |
Our 6061 aluminum reel handles are 1/8th inch longer than our standard wooden handles with a knurled finger grip. They are fitted with a hand-pressed DelrinÆ insert for the absolutely smoothest feel this side of vanilla ice cream. And just as luscious. Their weight precisely matches the weight of the counterbalance. They won’t chip, fracture, splinter or snap no matter the temperature or conditions. They are, in a word, forever.
In Small, Medium and Large for various sizes of Abel Reels. Available in any solid color finish. Artistic and fish graphic are available for an additional cost.
$25 on a new reel; $40 if added later. |

SUPER 12X (extreme) |
 |
We originally considered naming this the Super 12T for tarpon, but then thought about all the tuna, sailfish, Mako sharks, bruiser dorado and other critters that this baby was designed for. With our perfect Super Large Arbor-to-Spool ratio, the 12X picks up line like no other . . . a feature you’ll learn to love! Use Spectra backing for added capacity. InterchangeABEL with a Super 12 and 4.5 reel or frame. If you’re passionate about tarpon in the Keys, Belize, Yucatan, the Gulf Coast or wherever they roam, this is the puppy you’ll want to bring to the party.
$880; extra spool $390 |
